Fenwick Island, Delaware

Fenwick Island, Delaware is located at the southeastern most corner of Delaware just north of the Delaware – Maryland state lines.  Known as one the of ‘Quiet Resorts’, the three-mile barrier island offers saltwater fun for the whole family.  The town has preserved traditions and old-fashioned values, giving it quality, charm, and that small-town atmosphere that appeals to almost everyone.  Fenwick offers numerous restaurants, shops, nightlife, and many forms of family entertainment.  

The historic Fenwick Island Lighthouse is located on the Delaware – Maryland state lines just south of Fenwick Island.  The lighthouse was built in 1858 and is still in operation today.  It is open to visitors.

Fenwick Island State Park offers 344 acres of ocean and bay shoreline for swimming, sunbathing, and surf fishing.  Fenwick is one of the few beaches in Delaware that offers a designated surfing area.  Lifeguards patrol the beach from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day from 9 am to 5 pm.  The park features a bathhouse, gift shop, and food concession.  Additionally, chairs, umbrellas, and rafts can be rented on the beach.

Little Assawoman Bay & Wildlife Area

Little Assawoman Bay forms the western edge of Fenwick Island State Park and provides many other opportunities for salt water recreation.  The Bay is a popular place for crabbing, clamming, water skiing, and sailing.  Sailboats, windsurfers, and jet skis can be rented at the watercraft concession on the bay shore.

The Wildlife Area consists of 2,800 acres.  Two public boat launches,  Strawberry Landing and Mulberry, are available.  The salt marshes along the shore offer opportunities for birdwatchers to spot nesting gulls and terns, osprey, herons, loons, bald eagles, ducks, and geese.
